The authors’ individual lives were nearly destroyed by
cataclysmic life events. But like steal is forged by fire, they used these
events to become stronger…”From tragic to magic,” says Harriet Tinka.
And in the process, they discovered “The Secrets to Living
A Fantastic Life.“ They discovered 13 metaphorical Golden Pearls of wisdom to
make a fantastic life. And you can have a fantastic life, too, without the
hardship they have gone through.
Let’s explore 3 of these Golden Pearls. Here are three:
1.
Golden Pearl #8 – Attitude - David Goggins, author of “Can’t Hurt Me”, a
retired United States Golden Seal said, “Attitude is absolutely everything in
Life! The only thing more contagious than a good attitude is a bad one.”
2.
Golden Pearl # - Intention (purpose)- Ellen Degeneres said, “I believe
we have all been put on this planet for a purpose and we all have a different
purpose. When you connect that with love and compassion that’s when everything
unfolds.
3.
Golden
Purpose #12, Empowerment, Harriet Tinka, former NY runway model says, “Above
all, be the hero in your life and not a victim.”
If you could tell your younger
writing self anything, what would that be?
Harriet: It’s not what happens to
you, it’s what you do with what happens
What would you say is one of your
interesting writing quirks?
Dr. Lycka: My muse is awake early
in the morning. That’s when I write best
Harriet: I write best under
deadline
Do you hear from your
readers? What do they say?
Harriet: Yes, we have. Here’s a
recent example.
When life knocks you down, you either stay down and defeated or rise
up even stronger. Dr. Allen Lycka and Harriet Tinka chose the latter. Dr. Lycka
is a thought leader, philanthropist, and a world-renowned cosmetic dermatologist
who faced a death scare in the form of a wrong diagnosis, which would have led
to his demise if he had accepted it as his fate. Harriet Tinka is an
accountant, empowerment youth worker, marathon runner, and a former fashion
model that was left for dead by her university classmate after kidnapping and
assaulting her. They both chose hope and persistence and eventually overcame
their traumatic experiences.
"Detachment is not that you own nothing; rather, it is that nothing owns you." The Secrets of Living A Fantastic Life contains the valuable lessons that Dr. Lycka and Harriet picked up on their separate journeys to victory, which are aimed at encouraging and inspiring people that are facing similar situations. The secrets are based on universal stories and the wisdom they discovered on love, thankfulness, forgiveness, attitude, laughter, and eight other "Golden Pearls".
Lots of inspiring examples and quotes from the two authors and other people they encountered or read about are shared with readers in a conversational manner, making it quite easy to read and assimilate; it's basically written in a jovial and friendly tone. However, this doesn't make it less profound as I had to bookmark several quotes and contemplate on them and on how I could personalize them. For example, I was inspired by the discussions of attitude to the extent that I felt more energetic than usual after reading.
I recommend The Secrets of Living A Fantastic Life to all; from people experiencing trauma or seeking better lives to others that just wish to satisfy their curiosity. The Golden Pearls are indeed invaluable, and I feel a good number of people out there would also find them so. References to religion are few and not imposing on the audience, regardless of their beliefs; readers should expect a mildly violent scene, but vulgar and sexual expressions are not included.
A fantastic read and an enlightening experience! I smile when my mind goes back to the hearty conversations in The Secrets of Living A Fantastic Life. I like everything and dislike nothing about the book, so I rate it a 4 out of 4 stars. I would definitely be returning to the Golden Pearls to gain new insights and keep my energy level up.

What has been your best
accomplishment?
Harriet: Working as part of “the
Secrets to Living A Fantastic Life” and serving others
Dr. Lycka: here’s a recent
testimonial:
The Secrets of Living a Fantastic Life is a book
bound to change any readers life. The book contains 13 golden pearls that the
authors explain in great detail. These golden pearls are elements that the
authors realized are crucial for living a fulfilling and fantastic life. Both
the authors came to realize these elements after going through near-death
situations. The authors both explain their past experiences and how they
overcame everything at the beginning of the book.
One of the things I loved about this book was its precise nature. The authors didn’t beat around the bush by their presentation of the golden pearls to readers. Right after explaining their stories and the metaphorical golden pearls, they dived into explaining each of the golden pearls. An allegory was presented relating to each golden pearl.
The text was mainly presented as a dialogue between Dr. Allen Lycka and Harriet Tinka. Given the way the writing came off, I assumed that perhaps they had recorded audio clips and had them transcribed into text for the book. Regardless of the method they used to achieve that I enjoyed the dialogue format. It made me, as a reader, feel more of a personal connection to what the authors were saying. It also added more uniqueness to the book.
I also love the fact that the authors included various quotes from different people and sources. I felt like they were well matched and relevant to the message they were trying to communicate. To me, they enhanced my comprehension and understanding of the book more. Plus, it was nice that they listed out the quotes they’d used again at the end of the book for readers to check out.
Generally, I feel like this is a very thought-provoking and inspiring book. The message of the 13 golden pearls presented by Dr. Allen Lycka and Harriet Tinka is universal. I feel like readers from various walks of life could gain something from this book.
Overall, I would give this book 4 out of 4 stars. I feel like The Secrets of Living a Fantastic Life is wonderfully written. The book contains a lot of helpful material that many readers can learn on. The book does contain a few errors here and there that I hope will be corrected. However, these errors did not dampen my overall thoughts and feelings on the book.
I would recommend The Secrets of Living a Fantastic Life to fans of self-help and motivational books. This book would also be perfect for non-fiction readers. I feel like readers who mainly enjoy fiction and fantasy may have a hard time liking this book.
