The Page 69 Test: *The Mirror* by P.K. Eden #page69

They say if you want to really find a good book, go to page 69 (the middle and meat of the book) and you like what's there, it's definitely worth reading the whole book. For today's feature, I'm zooming in on page 69 of P.K. Eden's new urban fantasy, The Mirror.

BOOK DESCRIPTION

What if you found out the artifacts from the fairy tales you loved as a child were real and one of them just predicted your death? That’s the dilemma Scientist Ben Michaels faces when Siene Dower, descendant of the Brothers Grimm, tells him that Snow White’s Magic Mirror sent her to stop him from getting into the cab that crashed and burst into flame right before his eyes at the intersection at Penn Station, New York City. Does practical Dr. Michaels dismiss everything he knows about reality and science and follow the curious and beautiful woman who just saved his life?

The Mirror is available at Amazon.

“I have no idea,” Ben replied. He looked around the room. “I have no idea about anything.”
“What is your specialty?” Quinnock asked.
“Biomolecular physiology.”
“He was working on some spit project,” Siene added.
Ben frowned. “Stop calling my work a spit project.”
“Excuse me, saliva project.” Siene rolled her eyes.
Ben nodded at Quinnock. “I am studying lysozyme and its effect on some infections. It is known to attack
the cell walls of many gram-positive bacteria. I think if manipulated correctly, lysozyme could be useful in the treatment of many diseases.”
“Exactly what did the Mirror show you, Siene?” Kai Soong asked.
“Besides his death?” Ben glared at her as she continued. “The city was deserted. No one seemed to be
left.”
“Could be some sort of plague prediction,” Quinnock concluded.
Siene shook her head. “I don’t think so. The Mirror would have shown sick people if a plague was coming.
The city was empty, like everyone just moved out.”
“And it is clear Lucian is looking for the Mirror. If he intended to infect people with something, he’d have
something ready and be done by now,” Reed added.
“Agreed,” Siene said.
“Have there been any reports of missing artifacts?” Reed asked.
A low buzz of voices filled the room as the Primogens conferred. Each rose in turn. “None.”

What do you think? Would you keep reading?
